Some parts of Switzerland are said to resemble Swiss cheese, with hollow caverns sitting beneath the surface resulting from centuries of mining, bunker construction, and railway tunnels. Few mines remain operational today, and even fewer are worth exploring—unless you're intrigued by photos and videos found online of old VW cars hidden deep underground.

The photos show around 40 cars in various conditions, stored by a nearby car museum in an old asphalt mine. Presumably, this is because it's free storage, not because the vehicles are particularly well maintained in these conditions.

This is my journey to explore the underground labyrinth and try to see these cars.

To see the VW cars I was too late to see, check out this post on 28dayslater.co.uk.
