Pärispea Pisciculture was once home to the largest saltwater fish farm in the USSR, operated by the Kirov fishermen's collective. Situated right on the coast, the farm used fresh seawater, pumped directly from the ocean into canals, to support the growth and breeding of rainbow trout. In operation from 1979 to 2007, this farm at its peak apparently provided around 60 percent of Estonia's trout supply.
The site is expansive, with 30 ponds, supply and discharge channels, a pump house, a feed storage building, and a fish processing facility. Sadly, most of it is now either rundown or overgrown. An alternative universe version of the trout farm I visited as a child.
It looks like the site has been for sale for many years now, but even a nice model of its former glory / future potential hasn't willed any meaningful future into existance. The site waits silently for the future owner to take the bait.
