Just off the side of the road near the present-day Ämari Airbase, a small cemetery with striking headstones marks the resting place of Soviet pilots and their airplane tail fins, commemorating lives lost from the World War II era.
As Estonia continues to reckon with five decades of Soviet occupation, the future of this monument remains uncertain. For now, it stands as a reminder of a difficult past, alongside preparations for a brighter future.
